However wood provides much better protection than thatch against other players and dinosaurs since wood buildings can't be damaged by stone tools and have roughly 10 times as much hp.
If you go up the big hill that leads to the plateau overlooking the swamp, you can build a really nice based on the cliff looking east. There's a chance of raptors and therizinosaurs spawning, but so long as your barn has stone walls, it's a small price to pay for a nice view and some good, flat building terrain.

Whitesky Peak and Volcano have rich amounts of obsidian rocks at and around the summit. However smaller amounts of black obsidian rocks can be found in numerous peaks around The Island. On Scorched Earth it can be found in the artifact caves.
Wyverns in the Ragnarok map(including ice) can be found in a similar trench. Wyverns are among the apex predators of Scorched Earth, possessing the raw strength and speed to take down almost anything, with the few exceptions being the stony Golem, massive Sandworms, and the Manticore.
